Your best option would be to put an extra battery in the boot or similar to same your other main battery

It depends on how powerful.  The more power used by the sound system the shorter the range.  Putting extra batteries cuts the range by making the car heavier.  It will be interesting to see how the Chevrolet Volt deals with this problem.

yes it will, you can buy a capacitor that will hold charge to run the sound system, also you can buy an extra battery and a high voltage alternator and get the same result.
