Hmm, having a "God" experience needs to take place within your heart.  Not from a book or from the location you're at.  Sometimes those things can help boost you in the right direction, but the truth is, experiencing God in a real way can only start with you...in your heart and in your soul.  There are some great churches to visit in Italy, where you might find peace and it's a great place to focus on God.  I'd also visit the place where Paul the Apostle was imprisoned for his belief in God.  Mabye read the book of Romans and many of the books of the Bible written by Paul to learn about why he did what he did for the cause of Jesus.
