I have had a cold since monday and this morning I woke up a burning, heavy, tense feeling in my upper chest sternum area. I asked a Walgreen's pharmacists and she said to take mucinex. Well that was a noon and it is 8pm and nothing has changed. Web MD said it may be heartburn, but can it occur all day?

  1. Yes, you can have it for days. It can be a sign of a gastro-intestinal problem. If it continues, go to an internal medicine doctor.

  2. This answer depends on many factors. Are you taking medication for your cold? Are you eating something as well as taking medication.

Have you had any tummy upset with the burning sensation - could be a virus thing associated with the cold

Perhaps you have a condition called acid reflux and yes that can affect you all day every day and leave you really miserable

I think that the sensible thing to do would be to consult a doctor who can diagnose more accurately and give you some peace of mind - after all the web is a good place for information but at best you can only guess what is happening to you - a professional person you can interact with and accurately describe what has been happening to you is far better when you are not well and in doubt

Good luck and good health to you

  3. No when I was pregnant I got heartburn so bad during the last month. It does not last all day. Its like, a burning sensation comes up your throat every once in a while, almost like puke or something. That's what heartburn is. And if this is what you've been feeling all day then you might wanna run to a pharmacy and buy some otc meds because it can burn your vocal cords. Its super easy to get rid of though so no need to panic too much.
