My 20 year old step son is crazy. He makes up outlandish stories, does drugs, has a son, he can't hold onto a job and is always involved in some kind of drama. He just called tonight and said he was beaten up by his roommates...I still don't know the whole story, but is it possible to get him into a psych ward without his consent?

  1. Yes, but so far all the things you mention are not issues for getting into a Psych hospital. A lazy person who hangs out with the wrong people won't get you in there. Drugs will get you into rehab if you want to go but not the Psych hospital. Is the son with him?

You have to show that he is unable to take care of himself or he will harm himself or others. If he is talking about killing himself or isn't feeding his son (neglect) then you might have a case.

  2. Yes you can. Get a police report, and then go to a court to file a protection order against himself, tell the courts you story and a judge will see fit if he needs to be put in a hospital to get help, or he can walk inot a hospital, and have himself committed.  They will keep him 72 hours I believe.
