  1. Depending on your location you are more likely to hear the bow thruster when they are going into port and the anchors if they are tendering and need to use them.

I was on a cruise not too long ago and I was on the bottom deck, usually we are on the top deck ,and being down low is a whole new experience.

We were coming into port one morning and it was about 6:00am or so, and I heard this loud noise and everything in the cabin started shaking and it took me a minute to realize that it was the bow thrusters.

And if you are anywhere near the anchors, they are loud too when they are going down.  But that is more of a loud clanking.

As far as complaining after your cruise, that seems really cheap to me.  Like a cheap, easy way to get something for nothing.  Especially when it comes to cabin location.  You picked your cabin out.  Unless you went with a Guaranteed cabin, in which case, you agreed to whatever cabin was available.  So if you don't like your cabin, unfortunately, you have no one to blame but yourself (or maybe your travel agent)

  2. I"m going on my first cruise this Sept. on the Carnival Triumph, and our cabin is on the bottom floor, front of the ship, and we're worried about noise/motion too.

My uncle, who's been on tons of cruises, told me that your location is nice, that the sound/vibration of the motor is relaxins, esp. at night.

    Have fun on your cruise!

  3. oooo... you will hear it at night but it will eventually lull you to sleep.  if the ship is not full, you can request your cabin to be relocated.  secret of getting a "little compensation from your cruise if you have "any" discomfort.  after the cruise, call the cruise line and complain about your discomfort and they will direct your call to Customer Relation and they will give you a sort of consolation for your discomfort while onboard like a voucher that you can use on your next cruise, for example:  two vouchers worth $200 each that you can spend onboard or a discount voucher that you can use for your next cruise.

oppsss... getting out of the topic here, sorry.
