This is for a 1 year old and I just warm the formula up in the microwave? Is this ok or does it do something to the milk?

  1. I don't think it does anything to the milk that is absolutely dangerous or limits the nutrition of the formula. If it did, many tins would caution us against warming it in the microwave. I think it's an old wives tale. Sure, microwaves are a bit of a mystery but they are also a very helpful modern appliance and so long as you just warm the bottle and shake it through to avoid the hot spots, they are good. Also, because your baby is 12 months old, there is not much to worry about. Think of all the food he is eating that has been made and heated under different conditions.

  2. I've heard it's not the best idea however I don't think the microwave is the best idea for anything....I still use it though.

  3. Definitely not. You are zapping all the vital nutrients out of it. The hospitals would flip if they heard you say that. Just do what you would for your new born boil water and sit it in it till it reaches the desired temperature. I have a 14 month old who will only drink his formula cold so its not really a necessity to warm it. But if you find it easier to use the microwave then do it. This is only one opinion out of hundreds.

  4. i personally would never heat formula in the microwave.

just make a bottle and run it under warm water in the sink for a few minutes if you don't have a bottle warmer.

i just looked at our formula and it says on the back above the measurement amounts for water and powder:

WARNING: DO NOT USE MICROWAVE TO WARM FORMULA

  5. We always heated ours that way, you just have to be mindful that you don't make it hot.

Shake it up really well and wait a minute, then shake it again.

This appears to be one of those "yes you can/no you can't" type questions. But from real experience, us and everyone else we knew with a baby always nuked it to warm it. That's what we did with the baby food too once he was eating that.

  6. The formula becomes slightly irradiated but it is not to harmful levels. Some of the nutrients and vitamins within the formula may be affected and not be as helpful as they could be.

There is speculation that toxins within plastic containers may be released when using in a microwave but nothing has been proven yet.

The main thing you should be aware of, is that the temperature may be much hotter than you think.

ALWAYS thoroughly shake the formula in the bottle and test it on a sensitive part of your skin BEFORE allowing the youngster to take it.

But then you probably already know that part.

    :~}

I would suggest that you heat the water THEN add the formula to keep the formula away from the microwave. Having said that, the change in the formula is minuscule so would be barely detectable.

  7. it's fine but only if you have a glass baby bottle, plastic ones are no good to put in the microwave because of the chemicals they release in the milk. Just to be safe I'd warm it in a pan on the stove.

  8. nothing bad will happen to the formula just be careful that it doesn't get too hot

  9. I heard that it changes the chemical make up of the formula and that you shouldn't do it.  Just make smaller bottles so that you don't have any left over.  Throw out whatever baby doesn't eat.

  10. You can warm it in the microwave, just be careful because the milk will be hotter in the middle. Shake it up and test it before giving it to your baby!

  11. Yes you can.

  12. best way is to boil the kettle and port the water in a jug, place the bottle in the water to warm up. test on your sel first for temp

  13. yea you can heat it in the microwave, usually 30 seconds per 6 oz....

  14. No not only does it heat unevenly leaving hot spots in the formula that can burn your baby's mouth it also kills some of the nutrients

Hey for those of you that are giving me thumbs downs click this link.

  15. you can but make sure you shake the bottle to avoid hot spots that can burn your baby's toungue.  try to use glass bottles if you can!

  16. Never heat baby bottles in the microwave. The heat will be uneven and can scold yur babies mouth. Also never put plastic that food will be directly served from in the freezer, microwave, or left in a car. There has been evidence found that it changes the plastic and small particles of plastic can get into the food or water.(which has been linked to some cancers) For a 1yr old you can use warm tap water and they will usually drink it.

  17. No you can't.

  18. its absolutely fine... thats how most people heat up bottles... just make sure you drip some on your inner wrsit to make sure it is only luke warm afterwards...

  19. yeah, you can.

  20. not if its in a plastic bottle or container because than it can cause cancer.

  21. It depletes the nutrition (and decreases the potency of the vitamins) if you heat the formula in the microwave.

I suggest buying powder formula and warming the water in the microwave (before you add the formula!); then adding the powder after the water is warm: that way the formula never enters the microwave =]

Just be careful for 'hot-spots!' .. where the water could become unevenly warmed. I'd stir the water with a spoon after it is microwaved (or shake it really well) so the water all mixes together and less of a chance of the baby getting a hot sip of water ..

  22. yes, but put it in a glass container so that their are no carcinogens to harm your baby from the plastic bottle that the formula is in.

  23. As far as i know you can, I heat my daughters cows milk in the microwave.

  24. not ok because all the vitamins will diminish

btw could you do me a huuge favor and vote for me here?:

it won't take more than 5 seconds, promise

  25. Why don't you half boil the kettle until it is warm to touch, then add formula to that? That's what i do for my son.

  26. of course, and it will not deplete the nutrition you silly people, it's simply throwing atoms at the substance to heat it, its not making anything evaporate and such, so there is no was it would take away the nutrition of it at all

  27. You can if you are careful, the problem is you can overheat easily, always test the milk on your wrist to see how hot it is, a lot of babies have been burned with formula that was overheated.

  28. No it takes away the nutrition of the formula

  29. no, it creates hot spots and could burn the little one
