I want a good second type of snake, one that you can hold and it wont try getting out of your hands, and under 7 feet.

  1. Female Ball Python. Perfect pet for you, adults eat small rats. You can get a common boa or red tail. But you will end up feeding medium rats, rabbits, and chickens.

  2. Ball pythons are one of the nicest snakes you can have.  They are really friendly snakes that will not bite or try to escape.  They will grow to about 3 1/2 feet to about 5 feet long.  Corn snakes are good snakes.  Will grow to about five feet long.  Are a little faster and could get away easier though.  They also have a bigger chance at biting you.  Ball pythons are more bulky though.  Probably the only way you will get bit is by a feeding air.  Hope this helps.

  3. Ball pythons and Corn snakes stay under 7' and they are both very easy to handle.

  4. The easiest and most popular is probably the ball python, but if I were you I'd go with a male rather than a female. Females typically grow larger than males and can be a little irritable at times whereas males are usually very laid back and don't grow as large.

Personally, I like jungle carpet pythons. They shouldn't get much bigger than 6 feet (unless they have been crossed with other carpet species) and they're gorgeous animals. Babies can be feisty and nippy, but as adults they are big babies. My 6 year old jungle carpet has a wonderful personality and she's a big lap dog of a snake.

Keep in mind that there is no guarantees that a snake of any species is going to be "easy". I know of ball pythons that would lunge at their keepers every time the cage was opened. Just because a snake species has a reputation for being calm and easygoing doesn't mean that the individual snake will perfectly emulate its species' characteristics. If a snake is cared for properly, it's kept in a safe environment, and its keepers handle it regularly then it's probably a safe bet that it is what you're looking for. It's best to buy from a breeder rather than a pet shop so that you can talk directly to the person who produced the animal you're interested in and have a better understanding of that particular animal and its needs, likes, and dislikes.

    Good luck!

  5. i used to have a gray-banded kingsnake that was very sweet. they're really long and skinny with pretty black eyes. ball pythons and carpet pythons are usually good-natured as well.
