if you have a digital 8mm (digital 8) then you need to connect to a firewire card., If you have analog 8mm (hi8), then you need to buy a analog to digital capture card, such as Hauppauge or All-In-Wonder.

8mm video is analog. There will not be any digital connections on it. You need to use the AV cable that came with the camcorder connected to an Analog/Digital Bridge. The A/D bridge will connect to your computer with USB or Firewire - depending on your computer's configuration.

Warning: Video transfered will not have very good quality - because the source was analog.
