I have not been paying attention to me hamster and she is biting the wire on her cage. I give her a carrot and a treat each day, and I think she will bite me when I try to pick her up because the 3rd time I tried to pick her up she bit me. I am scared to pick her up. Can you help me and my hamster trust each other??????

  1. Allow your hamster to sniff and crawl on your hand.  You can place a food treat in your palm to encourage her climb on your hand.  If she seems confident then try to pet her using a finger to pet along her side or behind her ears.  Slowly pet her and talk softly to her.  It might take several weeks for you and your hamster to trust each other, but hang in there!!  Remember that hamsters can be frightened when a hand descends over their back---so make sure you always put your hand in the cage palm up, lower it to the bottom of the cage, and then move it towards her when you go to pick her up.  Hamster don't like to be held for a long time and they are down right mean when you first wake them up from a nap!  The most important thing to remember is a way to a hamster's heart is through it's stomach!!!  Take care and I hope this helps you!

  2. When I first got my hamster it bite me 2. First, make sure that ur hands r clean and dont smell like food. If ur hands smell like food the hamster might bite. Start with just petting it. Take little steps that will make it trust u. THe hamster will start to trust u and let u hold it. And if ur scared it will bite u, wear gardening gloved to protect ur hands. And if u do that enough then u can hold it, pick it up and everything!

    Good luck!!!

  3. shes bored

take nher out with caution and put her in a ball

she will run around in it

  4. well most hamsters will bite the wire on their cage, even if they are not bored. Mine did it, so will yours :] If it bothers you most pet stores sell a spray that tastes pretty rank >.< Just spray it on the bars and he/she should stop biting soon

    but anyway

I really hope that your hamster is not a syrian hamster ( you know, the golden colored ones), because if you just got her, It is likly she could get wet tail. Syrian hamsters should be left alone to get used to there new home for a few days. You should just talk to him/her, so it can get used to your voice and such. I do recommend looking up the commen, deadly disease wet tail often caused by stress though. For future refrence, as the hamster can be saved if caught in time. :]

    anyway

If you are afraid to hold him/her, use some garden gloves.  Also, be sure you hands don't smell like food. Wash them before holdoing you hamster, or he is bound to bite. If you are nervous, try feeding him some food first. Then as he begins to trust you, try putting some food in your palm, and if he trust you , he will crawl up into you hand :] Just don't get scared and drop him, or else he may not trust you, and thats not fun :[

If you really trust him, he will trust you and you won't be harmed :]

Best of luck to you and your hammy :]
