Can you help me find a children's poem that scared the heck out of me as a kid?

I love scary stories, and when I was a kid (this would be mid-80's) I read a book of kid's poems that had a poem about a monster that would wait for you after school, kill you and eat you. There was an illustration of a skull wearing a baseball cap, floating down a river.

Yes, I know this is weird, lol!

Does anyone know the title or the author?

Sounds like one of Shel Silverstein's more memorable works, but I can't find it right now -- if I do, I'll add to this posting later.
