  1. Reading your post really makes me angry!  Who do you think you are to ask for handouts and freebies???  I am a SINGLE mother of TWO children -- one bipolar and aspergers, the other bipolar, autistic, MR and I WORK full time, am putting myself through college, purchased our new home, purchased our van and pay all of our bills MYSELF!!!!  My children do not get disability -- I work!!!

You make it appear that parents with special needs children are entitled to a handout.  Sorry, but take responsibility for giving birth to your child and support him yourself!

  2. Is your child in public school?  If so, funding should not be an issue.  They are mandated by IDEA to provide transportation to and from school.  If you are talking about funding for personal use, check with the Department of Rehabilitative Services and with Goodwill. They both are government agencies that have the funding needed for you child.

  3. You could ask about section 8 housing, but I don't know of any group that would just hand over a vehicle and a house. Where do you live? That will make a difference in what you qualify for.

What kind of disability are you on? SSI, medicaid, state waivers? Presumably with enough assistance, you could afford to purchase those things. We don't get any assistance at all, so consider yourself lucky ;-)

  4. look at your county board of education for starters...also check in to advocay groups, and autism awareness groups. sometimes there are also "grants" or "scholarships" given for kids iwth autism....it taks a lot of searching...good luck!

  5. the last thing i want to do is be mean - but come on - are you serious?

you want a hand out?  you are on disability - what more do you want? a house, a vehicle?  do you have a job?

check with social services - but don't use your child's disability for a hand out.
