Those two lines are absolute value signs. Yeah I am really rusty on my math. I know it is easy, but I just can't figure it out. Can you show me how you got the answer? There is two answers to it. In the back of my back it says the two answers are {-5,11}. I just need to know how to get that answer. thanks

  1. add 14 to both sides

    |a-3|=8

    set a-3 like this

    a-3=-8

    a-3=8

    add 3 to both sides

    a=-5 and 11
