Hi, I really need help knowing what kind of car would be best for me. I am moving away for my first year of school in August.

And I want something in GOOD conditon, good on gas and i'd really like it to be cute. I would be willing to learn how to drive a 5 speed. My school is very expensive, so I'm on a budget of $4000.00. PLEASE HELP!!!

Right now i'm driving a '94 T-bird that is falling apart, almost anything is better than it. I really want to get the BEST car I can for my money.

  2. I would look at some compacts. The main thing is to get something you like and with you're budget, you need something  that's reasonably good on gas. I can't tell you what brand to get because there are so many out there and I don't know what's available right now. Some of the economy cars may be getting pricey right now for miles per gallon reasons and may be grabbed up quickly. The main thing tho is to get something you will enjoy driving. Foreign makes are hot items right now because of reliability and economy.

  3. I would look for a Honda Civic. You should be able to find a decent one for under $4000. They are great little cars, good on gas, there are millions of them around so parts and service are reasonable, and they're generally very reliable.

Just look for one without too many miles on it - a slightly older one with fewer miles would be better than a newer one with high miles. And check it carefully for rust... Hondas sometimes rust easily, but not all of them do.

Oh, and not sure what your definition of 'cute' is, but I guess a Civic could be called that :)

  4. 98 Acura CL, 98 Ford Mustang V6, 98 Honda Accord or Civic, 98 Nissan Frontier or Pathfinder, 98 Subaru Impreza or Legacy, 98 -00 Toyota Corolla or Echo 00

these are all reliable and will last longer than other cars in this price range.

  5. I would buy a late 90's Subaru Impreza Outback.  Will get you through any conditions with AWD and they are so reliable if taken care of properly.
