i bought 2 packs of .40 ammo some 10 years ago. They came in packets of 6, not boxes, and looked like tiny shotgun shells. They had some kind of gel covering the tip and were filled with little red grains. In those times is suppose it was legal getting them, i do not know now, since i got them legally at a gun shop.

Have you ever seen them or know what i am talking about?

  1. I third the chorus of Glaser Safety Slug, or some other gimicky product.

Don't trust em, and they can't penetrate worth squat.  Get youself a nice conventional JHP

I think that covers it for the big name premium defensive ammo.  All that stuff will perform absolutely great, and has proven itself time and time and time again, both in FBI testing, big police department testing, but also in real-world shootings.

  2. Glaser Safety Slugs

    Still legal and still overpriced

  3. Definitely sounds like the Glaser rounds. These are a waste of money in my opinion. Novelty at best. I'm not betting me or my family's lives on a round that gets very limited and unreliable penetration.

  4. Yup.  They sure sound like Glasier Safety Slugs.  Their call to fame is that they won't go through dry wall endangering others sharing your home.  The were not illegal then, nor are they illegal today.  They are, however, pricey.  Try one or two at the range.  If they still go 'bang' load them for home/personal defense.  They're good stoppers provided you don't have to shoot through barriers.
