Summer is almost over and we went to Alabama for 3 weeks to visit and help a sick friend. Unfortunately, there were not children around as I thought were going to be there. I feel so badly but I didn't want her alone at home while her mother worked because it was against the home alone rules (her age) and her mother desires her not to be around her father's friends since she's so mature for her age. Since Im not working i asked for her to come alone. It was not as pleasant as I thought it would be because we clashed a lot.

Since we are home, I need to do some things around the house before she goes back to school and me to work. What's good to do with a ten year old around the house. I thought of making some shams out of some old unlined curtains for my room and make some matching curtains out of a flat sheet for her room and let her help me paint some. What do you think?

  1. I think you are thinking about this way to much. Spending time with you should be rewarding to her enough. If you try to force fun and excitement on her, it isn't going to feel that way for her. I think you both should be having fun spending quality time. Anything she does with you should make her life exciting enough (unless she is an ungrateful bimbo-not that I'm saying she is one).

  2. My nieces and cousins of that age like to knit or crochet. Perhaps have her learn how to sew the shams that you talked about? I loved painting my own room when I was 12 or 13; I got to pick the colors and do all the work.

Make sure that she doesn't feel like it's a chore. Snacks and music should help with that.

Do you know any younger children that she could watch and make some money? I remember that being important to me around that age.

  3. i have anb 8 year old...we like paddling in rivers...making popcorn and watching a good movie of her choice together...making dens outside, going for bike rides, shopping for clothes/a toy....building lego sets..baking ANYTHING. just have fun together! Maybe let her play with friends...
