Question:

Can you help me mend my scofflaw ways?

I am a YA scofflaw, apparently. Accused and convicted.

I posted a question last night that said "Can I pour you a nice hot cup of Postum?" My details included a reminiscence of that beverage and Sanka.

13 people answered (thank you! I was able to read parts of your nice answers on the email notices).

I got a violation notice for "chatting" and my question (and your excellent answers) were removed.

Can someone please explain to me what I did "wrong" here so I can avoid future violations?

PS. I am officially nominating this for consideration for Stupidest Violation Notice of the Year (2008 edition). Please feel free to share your own nominations.

  1. someone wrongly tagged your Q as 'chat' - U should appeal !

  2. OOOoooooooooo..Me thinks someone is on a roll with giving these violations.

    I get them too.

You want to know what you did wrong?

I suspect it was due to the fact that you didn't ask a question that could be answered with anything other than a yes or a no & you placed yourself in the role of the person in charge of the situation...that's chatting.

Next time, simply ask if anyone REMEMBERS drinking Postum & that way it isn't chat.  Try to remember to make your questions as universal as you possibly can...not everyone knows what Postum is, so this may have ticked someone off to get them to give you that violation.  Personally, I've switched to a grain beverage named ROMA on those days when I can't handle coffee!

Hope this puts your mind at ease.  Many of us have been getting similar violations when we post anything that resembles a personal dialogue!  I usually "shy" away from answering these types of questions because someone always takes it as some type of affirmation of guilt in the reporting & violation scofflaws, as you called it!

Someone is angry.  I decided to block a few people yesterday to see if my own life gets better.  That's how I deal with these matters.  Go with your heart & don't let it get you down.  I often re-read the guidelines to get new ideas of how to word questions...give it a gander when you get time.

Haha, as you can see some take this very serious. There never seems to be any set pattern and some peoples posts are reported just because someone doesn't like them. I think I will suggest that YA open a Senior sub category-Romper Room. Members can earn badges for their avatar such as Doesn't Play Well With Others or Most Violations Reported.

  4. Oh my gosh you said a naughty word Sanka that is promoting a product, I got one too for the word Pepsi, Someone ask what do you like to drink, the question remained I got a V   I would nominate the lady from the UK she got one for soliciting ha ha

  5. I believe  the yahoo people are oft times wrong, they let dirty and filthy content through and penalize someone for just being nice or voicing an opinion. I don't know who these people think they are but they have no right to judge someone so unfairly. I'll probably be judged for giving my opinion right now. Yet I have seen some of the filthiest garbage which was obviously posted by CHILDREN, women or girls with no morals posting filth allowed. filthy explicit sexual subjects being allowed, yet you were penalized, as I have been just for speaking my mind. there is no democracy here.

  6. Darned if I know.  I received a violation notice for chatting when I asked,

"Do you ever block other users just for disagreeing with you?"  I received 35 responses.  I appealed and was informed that this properly stated question was indeed chatting.

First of all, there's someone out there with the finger poised on the report button.  Second, Yahoo doesn't follow their own rules for what is chatting and what is not.  It's truly a crapshoot.

  7. I don't understand how this works.  I got a violation(in another category) for saying I think the Olsen twins shouldn't smoke!

  8. It happens. All it takes is one person to think you are disregarding the rules and your question is toast. I think at one time or another, it happens to most people. I apparently missed this question of yours, so I'm not sure exactly what it was, and the answers. Sorry it happened, but it very well could happen again, unfortunately. :)

  9. You can get around this by posing the question "does anyone remember the beverage Postum?" I dont know why people are so silly and report things like this for chatting. We all know what you meant and it was a reminiscence question. Some people need to lighten up and ignore the report abuse button.

  10. Sweetie, some one here is a you know what. They love this because they get a high from it. It is not you. I had a question and someone reported it as chatting, MG, it was just a question!! I know at least 2 people who might be doing this. Keep asking and answering. I like your questions. Stop worrying about these 'little' people. Maybe they will go away to where they can find some REAL violations.  Poppy

  11. please don't mend your 'scofflaw' ways. we need to change who ever is so up tight that they would consider that 'chatting' - i think it was an excellent question.  Don't give up!  hopefully the one in a 'nuggy' will just go somewhere else.
