  1. I would take the rental package also the class they offer an by the end of class you should be able to go down the mountain have fun

  2. Id say rent first, but if you fall in love, go ahead and buy one.  Youll probably be back up to the mountain soon after your 1st.  Its tons of fun once you get the hang of it.  The tricks just to not get discouraged before you start doing ok.

anyway... once you decide you want to get some, go to your local snow/skate shop, talk to em, tell em what youre looking for, and they should be happy to help you with everything.  In general, however, the board should come up to your chin when its standing up in front of you.  Itll change depending on what feel you want, if youre doing park or just freeride, etc.

    Good luck and have fun!!

  3. If you haven't tried it yet, I'd suggest you rent for the first couple of times to make sure you're going to stick with it. A lot of people try snowboarding but give up after the first time or two. They will usually have rentals at the resort when you go to the mountain.

If you want to buy a board after you decide you want to stick with it you should go to a core board store that caters to board sports and specifically snowboarding. The big box sports stores will usually not have knowledgeable staff. You need to go to a small store that has staff that can recommend the right board for you.
