Hi!

So I am planning my graduation present to myself: A trip to Scandinavia, and perhaps Italy since it is my heritage.

So, Flying from Los Angeles (LAX) and money is not an issue, however: I am thinking about applying to a Scandinavian university for a master's degree program and I would like to get a feel for the area. Because I have plans to go back to Scandinavia for an extended period of time, I don't want to spend tons of money on this trip next June.

Ok, so June or July 2009

From Los Angeles:

Fly to Stockholm, stay there awhile. Take a ferry to Vaasa, Finland and perhaps travel to Helsinki (1.5 weeks)

Fly to Italy and stay there (2 weeks)

So, that equals 3 1/2 weeks + travel time (the flight to Sweden is 22 hrs) = 1 month

What do you think?

  1. Scandinavia is Norway, Sweden and Denmark.  It's a shame just to go to Stockholm.  You should check out Oslo (university there has a good reputation), and Copenhagen.  All three are nice cities, in different ways.  They are also close enough that travel times between them shouldn't get in your way.

  2. hellstinky and HOland sucks waste of money been there..

  3. A detail: There's no ferry going directly from Stockholm to Vasaa - you can go to either Turku or Helsinki from Stockholm by ferry (both of those are university towns, too, btw)

  4. I agree with the other person. If you want to get a feel for Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark) then you can't just go to Stockholm for a few days.

Stockholm is a nice town with plenty to do, and so is both Oslo and Copenhagen. Norway is very expensive though...but a beautiful country.
