On a single census record it is often the case that four different place names can be mentioned - the village or town, the parish, the ecclesiastical district and the registration district. This is fine if you're familiar with the area in which you're researching but extremely difficult for unfamiliar places. In addition of course, boundaries have changed. In over 15 years of researching my family history I still haven't been able to find a website or any source whatsoever that can give me any details on them i.e. when boundaries changed, what they changed to, or even what villages were included within parishes or registration districts. Does anyone know of a website that can help me?
