There was a book I read when I was younger, about 6th grade. (Which was about 4-5 years ago). It is a young adult book about a girl who finds a old overgrown trail in the woods near her -farmhouse?-

She then clears it out.. and spends a few nights outside doing so.

I think I remember her cutting though a horse feild or stealing a horse.

And I do remember a part where there -are two guys?? Robbers perhaps- and she hides in a tree.

At one point she discovers a secret cabin, and it had a bunch of memories, like photographs, keepsakes. and I keep thinking a quilt.

I think there was also the other half of a -medallion/coin- there. Which made her remember going to a circus with a -sister/cousin/twin?- They had each gotten a half of the medallion/coin

Which she found out had died in the house. in a bureau Drawer? (It was used as a crib I think).

And then later at the end of the book the trail becomes a tourist attraction and I remember she got annoyed when tourists asked to use her bathroom....

Thats pretty much all I remember about the story.

All I need it the title or cover.

Other details I remember:

The cover was read, and I think it had plant life or trees on the side.

I swear that the story, or the cover had something to do with a Cardinal (red bird with black face and crest)

Please, Please help me!! I would be eternally grateful. I found this as one of my favorite books when I was younger.

Thank You!!!

 1. Okay. I'm glad you remember :) The first book I ever read by her was when i was in 7th grade. It was called Absolutely Normal Chaos. It was about a 13 year old girl ( i forget her name) that had to keep a journal over the summer as a literary assignment. She didn't want to, but when she started, she couldn't stop. It was a really good book. Have you ever read it?
