how tall is a tree that casts a 27 ft shadow at the same time that a 4 ft

fence post casts a 3 ft shadow?

  1. if 4 feet casts 3 feet shadow, obviously, the tree is more than 27 feet tall, isn't it? so it is 36 feet tall!

    4ft fence is to 3ft shadow as xft tree is to 27ft shadow; same as

    4ft: 3ft :: x: 27  which is 4/3=x/27

    cross multiplying gives (4/3)*27= x

    x= 9*4 = 36ft tree

    So a 36 feet tree will give a 27 feet shadow at that time. Sounds like sunset.

    x = 27*(4/3)
