Can you help me solve this problem? I think it's called a matrix or something.?

My teacher gave me 5 of these problems for review but I never learned this at my old school. :( :( :(

Here's one of them:

(directions) Perform the matrix operations, if possible.

(in giant brackets): row one: 2 5

. row two: -1 7

Right next to those in brackets are the numbers 2, 1, and -4 in one row.

How do I do this problem??

  1. Is there an operator specified?  If this is supposed to be multiplication, then the answer is "not possible"; for matrix multiplication, the number of columns of the first must equal the number of rows of the second.
