Can you help me understand my Wais intelligence test result?

My exam shows that my verbal scale is 122, what is the equivalent IQ? I have read a table and it shows my IQ is 160 but I am not completely sure if I made the equivalence correctly.

It is also very strange because I have never had good grades. Can you help me understand this?

  1. The WAIS generates three main scores on three scales.  These are the Verbal Scale, Performance Scale and Full Scale.  The Full Scale is basically an average of the Verbal and Performance scales and this is the number that most people would think of as an IQ.  A Verbal Scale score of 122 means that you are in the Superior range in terms of Verbal abilities.  There would not be a table which would "convert" this score to an "IQ", so whatever you've done to come up with the 160 score, it probably is not valid.

IQ does not necessarily correlate with good grades.  There are other factors which can interfere with smart people's abilities to do well in school.  But you would need more information than a Verbal Scale score to try and tease that out.

    Hope that makes some sense.

  2. Man, I wish I could help you.. It was my worst subject "Psych Tests and Measurements". Here are the two links that may clue you into some considerations when scoring and interpreting it though. http://wilderdom.com/personality/intelli...
