Can you help me with a Sunday School lesson about snow?

I teacher 3-5 year olds and would like to do a lesson about God and snow or snowflakes. Either no two are alike, just like God made people, or God gave us snow. I need an easy activity and would like not to do a project that needs to dry overnight. Any ideas?

  1. My daughter just did a similar lesson in her preschool class.

The teacher "painted" each child's hand with glue, and each child made several hand prints (4-5) going around in a circle on a round piece of blue paper, with the heel of the hand overlapping in the center.  Consequently the fingers made the edges of the round snowflake. Then they used a little bit of a white craft flake to make it into a snowflake (or you could use glitter, or even salt - sea salt or kosher salt looks the best).  If the glue isn't spread on too think it should dry fairly quickly.

It really wasn't too messy - the kids just washed their hands immediately.  (Although some chose to let it dry and "peel" it off).

Not only is each snowflake different, everyone's hand is different, so it sort of ties the two concepts together.

    Good Luck!

  2. Try doing pictures painting of snow and snow flakes. You could make snowflakes out of paper.

  3. Using God's word is more important to young ones than anything else we grown ups could do for our children to teach them truth of the scriptures. I hope this will help? to give you idea's

(Isaiah 55:10-11) 10 For just as the pouring rain descends, and the snow, from the heavens and does not return to that place, unless it actually saturates the earth and makes it produce and sprout, and seed is actually given to the sower and bread to the eater, 11 so my word that goes forth from my mouth will prove to be. It will not return to me without results, but it will certainly do that in which I have delighted, and it will have certain success in that for which I have sent it.

The World Book Encyclopedia says: “Wool . . . insulates against both cold and heat.” And of snow, World Book notes that it too “serves as a good insulator. Snow helps protect plants and hibernating animals from the cold winter air.”

So the next time you watch the snow falling from the sky, you may want to think of God’s awesome power. Or you may choose to think of the gentle protection he provides as he spreads a white blanket over his creation, much the way a loving parent might tuck a child safely into bed.

  4. Is there snow now where you live?  Why not take the kids outside where they can experience God's amazing creation through their senses as you share verses with them about how God created the world and how He cares for people individually.  Often this age group learns best through touch, taste, smell, etc rather than sitting and listening.  Enjoy!
