  1. The safes way is to use Boric acid very cheep. sprinkle outside perimeter or house and any cracks and trouble areas and leave the container open in a cupboard

  2. A friend of mine had this problem. What he did was to buy this choclate like thing from walmart or target (for cockraoch elimination) and kept it on top of the counter (where people/animals won't reach much and cockroaches love to come).

What happens is that the cockroach likes to eat the choclate like thing and it does not die there. But it will die later slowly in it's nest. And when it dies, other cockroached devour him and gets poisoned too.

One week and not even a single cockroach. the problem with the cockroach spray is that ... it will only be used on a cokroach u see at a time and spraying can get people food etc poisoned.

Check a store and see if you can find it. I can't remember the name .. sorry.

  3. In addition to the above, get rid of the carpeting.  Seal any holes in the windows and flooring.   Check behind Cabinets or shelving for holes.

Wall outlets such as electrical and switches are common places and these can be sealed with a thin black foam pad you place over the outlet which you can buy for real cheap at a hardware store.   Spray 2 shots of RAID on the sides of the outlets, dont get that spray on the outlet itself.  Then place the foam pad over the outlet and replace the s***w that holds the cover of the outlet.

Roaches need food and water, and sometimes they get by on mildew, fungus and  sweat or condensation.

So get this room cleaned up:  Get a large black plastic bag, place everything inside the bag and take it outside, leaving it outside in hot sun for 48  hrs.  Open the bag away from the house and thoroughly inspect all items.   Then bring the items back into the house.   Most cockroaches don't bite so if u see a few just swat them off.

Any holes in the floor must be sealed up with either spray foam or wood putty if wood floor.

If there's a sink in the room then under the sink the pipes that go into the wall need to be sealed with a spray foam.

  4. Boric Acid

  5. There is a place called "Do it your self pest control", and they have two different kinds of spray to use. One can makes the females sterile and they can;t have no more babies and the other can kills roaches. With the two cans and the treatment within a few weeks you will notice all roaches are gone and after that you have to change chemicals to prevent reinfestation./

Roaches get immune so you have to change chemicals.

  6. Clean up the mess. Quit leaving food out for the dog, clean the kitchen including behind the stove and fridge.

Then, and only then, get some diatomaceous earth and sprinkle it behind the stove, under the sink, etc. (diatomaceous earth is not a poison but it messes roaches up by being abrasive and wearing holes in their shells).

  7. They sell a chalk in China Town here (no idea what its actually called its all in chinese *lol*) that cockroaches won't cross so you just draw around the edges of the rooms.

Otherwise diatomaceous earth is fossilized sea creatures that kill bugs because the sharp edges cut open the bug and they dehydrate.  However they are so small they don't hurt large animals like dogs and humans.  You need the food grade not the pool grade. (It also kills fleas and can be applied directly to dogs, it is mixed in animal feed to kill worms as well)

Lots of other ideas here, as well as using diatomaceous earth

  8. Because of the dog, I would suggest getting those roach traps at Lowes/Home Depot. That's about the only thing I know of that would be safe.

  9. The traps don't work you need the gel bait it works better. You can get it at any hardware store. My husband works in pest control & that's what he suggests if you aren't going to hire a professional. You squeeze small amounts in places cockroaches would like to go ex. under the kitchen & bathroom sink around electronics like behind the entertainment center also just in corners in each room. They won't die right away because they eat the poison & then take it back to the nest where they all eat it so it takes a little while. If your brother lives in an apartment or is renting his house the manager is suppose to have someone come and take of the problem for him. So that is another option as well.
