room?

We have just moved into a new apt and are having to replace all of our furniture. My husbands coworker is giving away a fairly new bunk bed and I would like to get it for my daughter and surprise her with it. My idea is to make the top bunk a drawing and lounging space for her. I would replace the mattress with carpet samples and decorate the walls around the top with thin pillow mats I am planning to make. I was trying to think of a way to make it more private for her and thought maybe curtain rods with short curtains to go around the open space, and make pillows to throw around inside.

What colors do you think would be good, she is into things like Neopets, but I want to make her something that will be relevant for more than a year. She is 10.

  1. ask her what is her favorite 2 colors then paint each wall that color.

  2. use orange pink lime green and purple bright colours kids love that

  3. lavender is always a really pretty color for girls.

  4. http://www.ikea.com/ca/en/catalog/produc...

you could try this "bed tent" idea from Ikea.  I believe it only fits on a specific bed sold at Ikea, but you sound pretty crafty, maybe you could make one yourself.

I think your idea sounds cool.

  5. How about you start off with makeing simple panels but in each a differnt color, like one hot pink, another purple, lime green, blue, or colors that she chooses, and you can get a bunch of felt, pipe cleaners, googly eye (larger ones) buttons, and it can be a great project for the both of you decorating her new space. You can take her to the cloth and craft store and let her pick out fabrics that she likes and it wont be too exspensive if you only get a yard or so of each or more if you decide it whip up a couple of pillowsto match.

For ideas you can make felt flowers that can be easily sewn onto the curtains and hot glue button in the middle and you can make butterflies and dragon flies with simple shapes, or whatever she can  come up with. And you can sew up some cute little pockets in them for whatever she likes, and if you are really ambitious make sheer curtains with pockets out of the same material and let her put very pretty fake flowers or bug or her own felt creatures in the and she can always make more and switch them out as her interests will change from time to time.

You can add in little cheap shelfs and put in a simple cheap basic lamp and let her decorate the lamp shade with help of course to keep it from catching a flame and she can put trophies figurines pictures her own clay creations and whatever on them.

Remember if you let her personalize at least part of her new space how ever she pleases, then she will always love it and it you two can have a great time bonding and making a great memoriable moment of having fun together.

  6. My sister just recently "upgraded" her bedroom to a more adult room...it used to be very pink with flowers everywhere. Now she has black wooden furniture with blue/silver bedsets....it's really nice, I like it. Maybe you can mix and match bright colors (like the neopets colors) but without all the cartoons on the sheets...just bright different colored sheets and pillows. And for the curtain around the top, you can buy a white netting or lace and then dye it to match one of the bright colors of her sheets or pillows.
