Can you help me with football?

I'm planning on trying out for varsity football next year and I'd like to get some helpful advice on what a coach would expect from a 13 year old girl. What are they specifically looking for? How can I improve my spin? How can I improve my agility? Is there anyway I can get stronger quickly? Do you recommend gloves or extra pads for girls? the best way to keep my hair out of my eyes? The order I should put my pads and uniform on so it'll be easiest? This will be my first year on a football team and I also would like to know the safety risks and how to prevent them? I am 4' 11" and I weigh 78 lbs. ( I think that's about 38 kilos) and I would like to know how big the other players are going to be compared to me. I need to gain weight and gain muscle, can you give me some advice on that too?

  1. 78 POUNDS?!? sorry girl, but the thing is, it's not that you're not going to be able to play because you wouldn't be good enough, you're not going to be able to play because they're not going to let you. YOU WILL GET KILLED! the defensive line for my school's team probably has an average weight of about 275 pounds. 200 POUNDS MORE THAN YOU! your school could not let you play just for the fact that they need to look out for your safety. if you really want to play football, look into a local (maybe town) league, where teams are (usually) based on weight, not age. flag football wouldn't be a bad idea either. it's great you want to play, but it's just not going to happen.


  2. it's great that you're ambitious, but Varsity football isn't going to work for you. Sorry to say it, but if one of the linemen hit you, they would would probably knock you out at the least, or seriously injure you. Almost all of the players will weigh more than twice your weight.

    Don't give up hope though!!! Flag football is just as much fun as regular football!!! I've played it competitively and it's a blast! I know a lot of girls who are great at it too. You should look into it.

  3. Quickly?  Um.  No.  If anyone says, do this and you will get stronger or more agile quickly either they are teasing you, or selling something and lying.

    As a girl one thing to think about is the future.. At 13 you may be stronger than some guys.  Puberty will change that.

    Testosterone is a steroid and guys get them naturally.  (The female equivalent is Estrogen and it doesn't help you gain muscle mass.)

    Learn a skill, say Place Kicking, Punting, or even Long Snapping.
