Im in 9th grade and need help with some problems!

How do I reduce -8/-2?

What is 0 minus negative 8?

What is 3 minus negative 1?

What is 0 minus negative 2?

I SUCK AT NEGATIVES!!!!

What is the y intercept of this equation:

y=-6x

I put down that the slope is -6,

am I correct?

PLEASE HELP ME =/

  1. first the slope in that equation is 0.

    y=mx+b is slope intercept form where m=slope and b=y intercept

    since you have y=-6x -6 is the slope and the y intercept is 0

    reducing -8/-2 works just like division... when you divide a neg by a neg you always have a pos and 8/2 is 4 so your answer is pos 4

    0-(-8)=8  when you minus a neg it always makes it a pos... neg*neg=pos

    3-(-1)=4 remember cause when you minus a neg number you really just add that same number to it...

    0-(-2)=2 hope that helps

  2. 0-(-8)= 8

    3-(-1)=4

    0-(-2)= 2

    -8/-2= 4

    y=-6x

    your slope is -6 and the intercept is 0.

    srry im in 8th grade taking 9th grade supjects. so if im wrong im sorry

    im positive about all of then except the last one

  3. PROBLEM 1:

    When you multiply or divide two negatives, they cancel out to give a positive result.

    -8 / -2 = 4

    PROBLEM 2:

    When you subtract a negative, it's the same as if you added a positive.

    0 - (-8) = 0 + 8 = 8

    PROBLEM 3:

    3 - (-1) = 3 + 1 = 4

    PROBLEM 4:

    0 - (-2) = 0 + 2 = 2

    PROBLEM 5:

    y = -6x

    Compare that to slope-intercept form:

    y = mx + b

    y = (-6)x + 0

    Your slope is -6

    Your intercept is 0

  4. -8/-2 = 4   division and multiplication:  number with the same signal results in + signal.... different signal results in - signal.  That is

    -8/2 = -4 or 8/-2 = -4

    0 -(-8) = 0 + 8 = 8

    3 - (-1) = 3 + 1 = 4

    0 - (-2) = 0+2 =2

    y = -6x is a straight line... the slope is -6 you are right  and it cuts the axis in (0,0).

  5. I see all of the questions have already been answered, just a tip if you're having troubles with negatives.

    Think of it like this, ever hear of the saying 2 wrongs make a right?:

    a positive and a positive make a positive ex: 1+1 = 1+1

    a positive and a negative make a negative ex: 1+-1 = 1-1

    a negative and a negative make a positive ex: 1--1 = 1+1

    (+)(+) = +

    (+)(-) = -

    (-)(+) = -

    (-)(-) = +

  6. -8/-2 = 4 (Neg. divided by a neg. is a positive)

    0 - (-8) = 8 (The minus signs cancel out and become plus signs)

    3-(-1) = 4 (Again, minus signs cancel each other out)

    0-(-2) = 2 (Same as above two questions)

    Y = -6x......

    Yes, you are correct, the slope is -6x, because the equation is

    Y = Mx + B.

    M is the slope, and B is the Y- intercept.

    Ex. Y = 6X + 7

    6 would be the slope and 7, the Y intercept.

    I hope this information was helpful. :)

  7. Here is the rules to negatives. In Add&Sub go with the sign of the highest number... In Div&Multi is different. -*- = + ; -*+ = - ; in Div.  -/- = + ; -/+ = - or (sign of biggest number)

    -8/-2=4;0*-8=0;3-1=2;0-2=2

    y=-6x   I need a grid to solve this,sorry!!

    Why it's crazy but, it is a little rule that states u can't have this have neg&neg in the same statement like so. 12- -3= 9 NO!! The 2 neg signs will turn positive. So 12 - (-3) =15 I hope I've help!!!!!

  8. -8/-2 it's like a division problem divide -8 by -2 which is the same as 8/2 (2 negatives create a positive) so -8/-2 is 4. 0-(-8) is 8 because once again, 2 negatives make a positive. 3-(-1) is 4 (since the 2 negatives become a positive, it becomes 3+1) and 0-(-2) is 2. The y intercept of y=-6x is 0 because it would be the same as saying y=-6x+0 but the 0 is unneeded. The slope is -6 because (assuming that it's in slope-intercept form) it comes before x. Hope that helped :D
