  1. I am sorry but you shouldn't ask people to do your homework for you!

We can all help you out here but why don't you give it a go on your own first :)

I am sorry if you found me rude or unhelping but I am just trying to encourage you! You can do it!!

  2. I agree with the other answerers that you should do your own homework.  However, you say these 5 Qs are the only ones you have problems with and I know how long SAT drills are...more like 100 Qs.  So, in order for you to LEARN something, I've explained to you why the correct answer is correct.  They should be doing that in your SAT prep class, by the way.  If not, take one from a different company.

    1. Like many other pioneers, Dr. Elizabeth Rackvelle, founder of the first American hospital staffed entirely by women, faced ridicule from her contemporaries but has received great honor __________.

    (A) posthumously

Typical of pioneers, they don't get fame until they're dead.  Phrase that gives answer away: "ridicule from CONTEMPORARIES", i.e. people alive when she was.

    2. While a great deal of changes and modernization has taken place in India since 1947, the basic economic arrangements, values, and family roles have been generally __________.

    (B) stable

The sentence starts with WHILE, so you are looking for something that's opposite of the first phrase's premise which is CHANGE.  Stable is opposite.

    3. Van Gogh has his maligners but his critics have had amazingly __________ success at shaking his confidence or __________ his reputation.

    (C) little ... denting <--this one

    (D) small ... enhancing

    (E) poor ... restoring

Notice the similarities.  Eliminate E since why would a detractor want to RESTORE a reputation?   D contradicts itself as well...why would detractors want to ENHANCE his reputation anyway?  RESTORE and ENHANCE would be done by admirers, not critics.

    4. The linguistic __________ of refugee children is __________ their readiness to adopt the language of their new home land.

    (A) conservatism ... indicated by <makes no sense

    (B) inadequacy ... demonstrated by <--IF inadequate couldn't adopt

    (C) adaptability ... reflected in <--this one is it

    (D) philosophy ... contradicted by <--children too young for philosophy

    (E) structure ... equivalent to  <--makes no sense when in context

    5. We find it difficult to translate a foreign text literally because we cannot capture the __________ of the original passage exactly.

    (C) connotations

We can translate a word, but that word may have many several other meanings, often subtle connotations that aren't the primary meaning of a word.

  3. You really should do your own homework. Look up the answers on Wikipidia
