Question:

Can you help me with my driving test?

I am taking my driving test tomorrow (I live in Ohio). I am not nervous about the actual driving, I'm just nervous about maneuverability. It's similar to parallel parking but not exactly.

Here is an image I made to let you get an idea of what I will have to be doing. The orange dots are cones, btw.

I would like to know if anyone has any tips. I've done it a few times and I do okay, but I'm still curious.

Oh, and it's supposed to snow here tomorrow (just a few scattered snow showers). Any tips for driving in the snow? I know stopping distance is greater and I know that I will need my headlights and windshield wipers on but any other tips would be appriciated! Thanks!

  1. Once in the car, adjust the seat to fit your body height and style. You should sit at least 25 centimeters from the steering wheel and your hands should be bent at approximately 45 degrees.

Be sure to check your mirrors regularly. Make this a little more exaggerated than normal, just so it is clear that you are doing it.

Get a good night's sleep. You'll feel a lot less anxious with more rest. Eat a good breakfast. It's difficult to concentrate when you're hungry.

Get in the car with the inspector. Relax. Adjust your seat, mirrors, and steering wheel to help ensure the inspector that you know what you are doing. Ask any questions that you have prior to the test. The tester will be glad to answer them.

  2. I think you will do great!! You sound like you have done your home work. If its slippery slow down, and dont turn quickly. Do not brake hard, get a feel for the road. Remember your the boss of that car, so dont let it control you! Good luck...let us know how you did.

  3. Take your time driving in the snow, it can be slippery!  I haven't taken the test you have with the cones but take that slow also.  Hopefully you will be driving a easy to manuvier car!  Keep your eyes on where the cones are all the time looking out the drivers window, using your rear view mirrors and the front windshield of coarse!  You will basicly pull through to the left of the center cone, you will be able to see the next cone back on the left side out your window.  Pull through and stop!  Use your mirrors and back up in the same path that you had just completed pulling forward!  I don't know if it is allowed but if another person is in the passenger's seat, you normally can ask them if you are clear of an object or ask where is it!  So you may ask your driving test monitor where is the cone on his side of the car at any time.  It certainly wouldn't hurt to ask and I really think he/she would be able to assist with that request.  Just move slow and stop a number of times if nessessary to see where the cones are before preceding!  The test is to see if you can manuver without hiting another car/s.  If you had time, I would say practice this in a parking lot a few times before taking the test but if you don't have time, just stay calm and take it slow!  I would say good luck but I believe you make your own!
