I will have a lay over in Dussledorg Germany for about 6 or 7 hours. I do not speak German but need some information about the public transport, trains or bus, from the airport to the Alstadt area of the city. Can anyone help? I have searched on line but have found nothing in English. Thank you!

  1. I think you can get all the information you need in the following link:

    http://www.dus-int.de/dus_en/bus/

    or this one:

    http://efa.vrr.de/vrr/XSLT_TRIP_REQUEST2...

    You can use the "coming from - going to" search option of the ÖPNV (Public transport company in Düsseldorf) in order to find your best options. The link shows the english version of the web.

    They just forgot to translate the following:

    von Ort = from (name of the place for example: Airport)

    nach Or = to (name of the place you are going to for example "Altstadt".

    Flughafen = Airport

    Stop = you can use this option only if you know the name of the bus stop. In the Website of the ÖPNV you can find the maps and the names but I am afraid this site is available only in german :o( , however I think the first link will be helpful.

  2. go to WWW.BAHN.DE and buy your ticktes there. I always buy them and print them from here (TEXAS) before I do. Be sure though you have the credit card you pay with to show as ID with your ticket

  3. Most of the people in Germany talk English, so you can ask somebody about the best way to get there. Germans learn English in school, because it is supposed  to be a "" world language"".

  4. You cannot buy Bahntickets since they are not valid for Dusseldorf area. Dusseldorf belongs to the (Traffic-Association) Verkehrsverbund Rhein Ruhr (VRR).

    You need to buy a ticket for Zone A (2,10 €) to go to the Altstadt.

    From the S-Bahn Terminal at the Airport (Green "S" sign) take Train S7 which departs at platform 10 in the direction of Solingen for a 9 minute ride to the Station Düsseldorf-Wehrhahn.

    From there use Tramway Number 712 in the direction "Hellriegelstraße" until you reach the stop "Heinrich-Heine-Allee" after a 8 minute ride.

    From there it's a 3-minute walk to the Altstadt.
