i'm from Scotland and i've just started watching baseball. I've decided my team is the Mets!

I understand the 4 balls 3 strikes thing, but I'm not really sure when the batting team has to go off the field, when is it decided when their set of battings is over and the other team starts to bat?

thanks to anyone who helps!

  1. When three guys get out, they switch sides.

Here are some sites with some baseball info, though they are more funny than informative:

  2. Three outs allowed per inning. That's three batters put out either in plays or at bat

  3. They are allotted 3 "outs". There are many ways to make an out. Basically, any time the runner (could be the batter, or someone already on base) gets tagged by a defensive player with the ball, or forced (meaning the ball beats them to the base and they were forced to go). Also, pop flys, and line drives caught by the opposition are outs. When three are recorded, the bases are cleared and the offensive team moves to defense.

  4. 3 outs then the other team bats

  5. the batting team's time to go "play the field" as they call it begins once they record 3 outs. An out can be achieved by a pop-fly, a grounder and the fielder throws it to a base, a strike-out or the 3 strike thing. (Outs are not good things either!) Each batting team gets 3 outs and then their turn is over. Then they go to field and try to get 3 outs on the other team so they can bat again. This goes on for 9 innings or as long as it takes to reach a decision as to who wins! Hope this makes sense!!

  6. Yea, each team gets 3 outs per inning.  They should show the outs on the t.v. so follow that and you should catch on.

I won't get into what constitutes an out, but I'm sure someone after me will give a link...or "wikepedia-ing" it yourself could be an option too.

If you're like me though, you'll want someone else to do the work for you.

  7. Teams swich once there are 3 outs. an out is when a player gets 3 strikes, or when the player hits the ball, but is caught in mid air before it hits the ground. Or the player can be thrown out, meaning that the ball his the ground but the fielder threw the ball to the baseman before the player made it to the base.

  8. Each time a team comes to bat they have 3 outs to try to score runs. After the 3 outs the other team gets their turn to bat. Now outs can be recorded several ways. The best way to really understand would be to read the official rules.

  9. ok lets say the mets are visiting fenway park

they get first at bat since there vistors. in till there is 3 outs  than red sox would come in back in the bottom of 1st ininning.

till there 3 outs than they go two the 2nd inning and keep trying to score.

i let the others explain everytthing else.
