  1. If your camcorder is a dv camcorder,it says in tiny print in your manual that you need a firewire connection (ieee 1394) to download video, unfortunately your computer probably doesn't have a firewire port (ieee 1394) so you will have to buy one and install it, also your camera did not come with a firewire cord (because PC's don't come with a port) so you will have to buy that too. The USB cord that came with your camera is strictly for downloading the stills from your video camera.

If it is a DVD camcorder then you must finalize the DVD before you can use it in your PC.

If it's an older VHS camera, then you need an analog converter such as a dazzle converter.

  2. You need to capture the video first using a software such as HDVSplit, Sony Vegas, Adobe Premier etc. It will capture all footage taken by your camera on to your computer.

  3. First, does your camera record to a tape (VHS, 8mm, etc.) or does it record digitally?

If it records to a tape, you will need a video card in your computer that has an input port (or an adapter for it).  That gets a little complicated.

If it records digitally, your camera should come with a cord that plugs it into the computer (probably USB or firewire).  In this case, you plug in the camera and access the camera from your computer to extract the video file.  (Extraction info in next paragraph.)  Once the file is on your computer, go to YouTube and upload it.

To extract the file from a digital camera, I can give you a general guide for a Windows-based computer.  This may vary based on the make and model of your computer and your camera.  Go to My Computer, then open up the camera.  The camera is probably named, and it is assigned a drive (probably E:/   F:/  or  G:/ ).  Inside the camera, find the video that you are looking for (probably within another folder).  Highlight the video and copy it (Ctrl+C).  Go to the folder on your computer where you want to place the video and paste it (Ctrl+V).

  4. The method used to transfer video from a camcorder to a computer is different for every type (Digital tape/Analogue tape/DVD/HDD/etc.) of camcorder and since you have not told us the type of your camcorder it is impossible to give you definitive advice - you will no doubt receive many guesses for answers - but these will only confuse you.
