Can you help me with wanting to decorate a bedroom with seashells and ocean-themed items?

I am wanting to decorate my bedroom with sea shells and other sea items. The colors of the furniture will be a dark brown and the bed sheets will probably be a blue and brown.

My problem is that I'm not artsy, craftsy much less creative. I am on a budget so I will be going to the beach to collect items that could help me with the decorating. Any ideas on how I can turn this idea into an actual room?

Thanks in advance

  1. My mom used to take mirrors and hot glue all kinds of seashells to make a frame/border. That might be nice as a wall hanging and soo easy.

  2. I think you should get as much pale blue in there as you can. And can you make the bedsheets pale blue and white instead of brown.

A good easy thing to make, pick up a cheap canvas for painting (bookshops have cheap ones, or ebay), and paint a picture with sand. It doesn;t have to be detailed, just pick two or three simple 'oceany' colours, mix some sand with them, or maybe some glitter, and just paint three massive wavy stripes across the canvas. It'll look like modern art!

You could make a windchime with some shells, glue some string on and hang them from on an old wire coathanger and decorate it with some other bits that you might collect.

Also invest in some cheap garden twine, or a rope a bit thicker, I think it fits in with a nautical theme really well. You can use it to embellish all sorts of things, if you have any wall pictures, tie some rope round the back and hang it on this, or tie some knots and they make a nice ornament, bit tricky to get the hang of though.

  3. make a cool collage with the sea shells youve collected..you may need to use somee heavy duty glue

  4. See if you can find a large seashell and put it on the dresser with earrings, bracelets, or other small items in it. You can also get clear glass table lamps, s***w off the bottom or top and filled the inside with a collection of small seashells.

If you already have a table lamp, then collect several small seashells of a similar type and glue them around the bottom and top edges of the lampshade. This looks really cute.

You can also find seashells with a natural tiny hole at one end. You could sew them to the bottom hem area of your curtains.

There is a link below with a source of inexpensive shells if you can't find what you want at the beach. (sometimes they have them at dollar stores, too) Be sure and check out shell shops near the beach you're going to as well as big craft supply stores. Also, there are links for seashell  throw rugs. Some of them are bath rugs, but who cares if you get the look you want in your bedroom!! : )

    Have fun!!

  5. While at the beach, collect shells or purchase them from a variety store so that you can "glue gun (an inexpensive and handy tool)" them to the frame around a mirror.  Leave the shells natural or spray paint with white satin.

Fill fancy glass containers with sea glass which you can purchase inexpensively at a hobby store.

Search for pictures with tropical themes such as palm trees, coastal birds, etc.

A beautiful color scheme for coastal decor:

    Cocoa brown

    Dark brown

    Blue (your "punch" color)

    Cream

    White

Satin Nickel Metal hardware and lamps

Purchase "Coastal Living" magazine or go to the library to research back issues.

Relax with the intention to have fun and your imagine with flow.
