I'm off to spain in 2 weeks. is it best to change my money to euros here or will i get a better rate in spain? also do u no the rate of euros in spain? thanks x

The amount you'll be exchanging, it won't make much difference. You may be €5 better off, but you may have to search for that instead of enjoying your holiday.

The rate should be the same. I was in Cyprus a week ago and the Euro to Pound rate was something like 1 Euro for 0.8 Pounds.

The rate you get is going to vary by pennies on a ten.  like .1%.  It really doesn't matter which country you get them in.  You will pay a small fee, no matter how you exchange your money.  If you don't pay a fee, they jack up the exchange rate.  These places all need to make their money somehow.  The thing to avoid or only change as much as you absolutely MUST is those convenient booths at places like train stations and airports.  Even banks there might charge you more.  All night or late night places will charge you more.

Best thing to do is bring a credit card or two and a debit card or bank account ATM card.  Use the ATM to get cash, and use the credit card for anything you can buy that way...less cash, less chance of actually being robbed.  Keep them in a safe place, keep a copy of all the important information (numbers, etc.) with your xerox of your passport, in case you are robbed.  (Murphy's law says, if you prepare, you probably won't run into trouble.)

My husband, who didn't have the foresight to keep copies of everything, he was the one who got his pocket picked.  Luckily, it was ONLY a couple of cards and some photos.

Check with your cards to be sure you know which one will charge you the least for the fee.  Mine charge between 1 - 3%.  Obviously, I put everything on the cards that charge 1%, keeping the others only in case I ran out of credit, or lost the card.  Didn't happen.

Euros are Euros...doesn't matter where you are changing into them, the rate will be the same.  

It'll cost you about 80p for one Euro.

we are in spain now, in spain we got 1.22 euro -- 1 GBP, in the post office we got 1.18 euro, in ramsdens jewellers we got 1.23 so not much difference have a good hol we are lol

For a 2 week holiday iI would change the money in the uk where you are not running into the language difficulty, you have to be very careful with the often hidden charges in the Spanish exchanges and the hotels usually give you a very poor exchange rate.

If you use an ATM you will be charge a  hefty commission rate unless you are with Nationwide who charge nothing.

A very good source for checking the exchange on the internet is www.xe.com who give you the mid rate which the rate that the exchanges use to base their own rate for the day.

I prefer to buy my Euros here in England.  I went to Spain in July and got an exchange rate of 1.19 Euros to the £ with no commission charge. Over there I believe I could have got 1.21 but less a commission of about 3%, which drops it down to 1.18 or a bit less.  My son said to use the cashpoint machine out there, but again you have a 2.75 or 3% commission to pay.  By the way, if you buy anythhing out there with a debit or credit card you MUST show them a photo ID, so take your passport or photocard driving licence when you go out.

The rate for Euro in Spain will be the same rate for the Euro in the 12 other countries with the currency!!

Take you money out of the ATM when you get to Spain, thats the best advice I can give you.  The rate at present is (and I'm guessing Sterling because you never actually said) is €1 = 0.7959p.  so to work out what anything costs just multiply the € total by .7959. Or 4/5ths if you don't have a calcualter on your phone

It's the same all over europe and the best place to change your money into euros is in the post office. Be very careful in spain with your money. Keep it in a wallet which is inside a bum bag and don't get it out for people selling stuff in the street. You will get 1.20 for a pound.

the rate in england is very bad at at the moment, i got a decent rate from an atm machine in Spain i think it was 1.26 however they may not all be the same and when you get out the depending on how busy etc it is there might not be one

personally i would take enough money but if you have the chance to pay by credit card i would because i found it had the better rate

btw    beware of pickpockets in spain there are lots of pickpockets so be carefull

in some parts of Spain small children try to sell you flowers and while you are distracted another child will steal you bag / wallet what ever

Don't carry large sums of cash with you, just use your debit card at the ATMs.  The rate of exchange is generally better than what you'll get changing money in a bank or foreign exchange office.

If you do it where you are in your own bank you probably won't get charged a fee, but if you arrive at your destination they'll have fees to s***w the tourists!

Where are you traveling from, the USA? I would wait, the dollar is getting stronger and in two weeks you might get a better rate (more euros). If you have a debit card, you can easily go to an ATM at a bank (but not at the airport, too much risk with pickpockets and thieves). If you want to play it safe, get some euros here and some over there. I wouldn't have too much money with me at any one time, Spain is not that safe (no pun intended!).

I was in Ibiza last week and one place was offering 1.26 euros to the pound.  I noticed today that my local Post Office (back home now) was only offering 1.16 euros to the pound.

This is no JOKE, there are many pickpockets in Europe. We dont have as many over here in the USA but I know many tourist have had their pockets picket, f***y pacs opened, ect, watch your money, keep it in an inside pocket. Also keep your pass port safe.

I would take some Euros with me, and buy the rest there. Be safe.

the rate changes daily. sometimes you are better off waiting but then you can be stuck with no choice. go on-line to the exchange sites, travelex is quite good as you can, check the rate daily or even hourly and buy at the best rate, then pick up your money at their bureaus at the airport or ferry terminal the day you travel.
