  1. Will we end up with an universal language of computer icons?

  2. If you want to get anywhere in college (and after) learn to do your own homework :)

  3. It is very important in college to learn how to design your own research questions.  I would suggest starting with something that you really find fascinating; or try picking a category in anthropology that interests you (i.e., biology, culture, language, archaeology, etc.).  If you like culture, then what aspects of culture do you like?  Do you find the idea of rituals among humans fascinating?  What about the role of religion in human culture?  And so on...  Let's say you like the idea of learning more about religion?  Then, which religion?  Which group of people?  And so on.  Keep breaking it down until you have a topic that is neither too broad nor too narrow.

Now it's time to begin the real research...  Go to the library and begin to dig into the catalogues to see what research has been done that relates to your question.  You're probably either a freshman or sophomore in college, so you'll need to pick something that has been researched before.  It is not until graduate school that you'll be asked to do original research.  Once you've determined what you want, then propose the question with some basic information that supports your answer to that question, in other words, your hypothesis.  Next, identify the sources that you want to use (i.e., bibliography).  The best way to develop a bibliography is write a paragraph on each source you collect; this helps to reduce the amount of time that you spend having to look everything up again as you write you paper.  Next, develop an outline that helps to address your research question and the answers that you intend to give to that question.  Now, you're ready to write your paper as you use the information you've gathered.  And, of course, always be sure to cite your sources!!  Don't plagiarize!  Or else you'll find yourself flat on your a$$ on the sidewalks of the college campus.

    Good luck!
