We have 3 really strong runners. We have to pick a fourth. All the girls left are really slow. What should we do?

  1. Usually in a relay the order would be as follows:

1st runner:  one of the two fastest. Usually the person who isn't the strongest solo runner. (see 4th runner). This runner tries to get you a good lead.

2nd runner: your third strongest runner. This person builds a bigger lead or keeps race close.

3rd runner: is your slowest. Tries not to lose too much of 1st and 2nd runner.

4th runner: one of the two fastest. Usually a person you can run fast alone or has a good kick.

You never said what the disntance is. Yet, this is the type of order I always used for my relay teams when I coached.

The best thing to remember is running is more mental than physical. Your comment up top tells me you'd rather find some other girl or try and run it all by the three of you. If you cheer on this 4th girl and give her positive motivation she may surprise you. She may still be the slowest runner out there but I can guarantee she will try harder if the three of you are behind her.
