1. A scientist notices that her pendulum-powered clock is running fast. She wants to find out why.

2. Since the scientist has misplaced the clocks instructions, she goes to the library and reads some books about clocks.

3. The scientist learns that the swinging pendulum controls how quickly the clock hands move. The faster the pendulum swings, the faster the hands go.

4. In light of this information, the scientist guesses that if the pendulum were longer it would not swing quite so fast.

5. The scientist goes to her laboratory to test her idea. She does the following:

A. Suspends a string 1 meter long from the ring of a ring stand.

B.Ties a washer to the end of the string.

C. Raises the washer to a 45 degree angel and let's go.

D. Records in her notebook the time it takes the washer to make each first five swings.

E. Repeat the procedure using a string 0.5 meters long and 0.25 meters long.

6. The scientist writes in her notebook, "the meter-long pendulum swings two times slower than the 0.25m pendulum and about 1 times slower than the 0.5m pendulum."

7. The scientist finishes her report stating, "it appears that a longer pendulum swings more slowly. Therefore, if 1 increase the length of the pendulum on my clock, the pendulum will swing more slowly, and the clock will not run as fast."

Ok now these are the questions that i need to answer from this.... put a number between 1-7.

1.Which statement contains a conclusion? _______

2.Which statement refers to research? ________

3. Which statement contains a hypothesis? _________

4. Which statement describe observations being made? _____

5. Which statement describes an experiment? _______

6. Which statement supports the hypothesis? _______

7. In which statement is the problem defined? ________

8. Which statements contain data? ________

Ok, now don't just put numbers 1-7 ... actually give me an answer.

9. What is the variable in the experiment? ________

10. What is the control in the experiment? _______

11. Which statement contains a generalization? ____

OK THAT'S ALL!!! PLEASE HELP ME!! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT!!! much help is appriciated!!!!!

  1. 1. A conclusin is the end part like after shes finished what are the results. #7 would be the conclusin because it states, or concludes everything she has done. (basicly summerizes it).

    8. The statements that contain data are the sentences that tells facts about the clock. In this case it would be #'s 6, D

    4. The observastions being made was in #4 because she observes, (or pridicts or guesses) that if the pengulim were longer it would not swing quite as fast.

And this is all that i know, Sorry! This is a hard problem

    Good Luck!!!!!!!!!

  2. I would love to just answer these for you but that would be helping you dig your hole even deeper.  The year has just started and you're going to have to do a LOT more of these type of questions and will be tested over them.  If you, as you say, have no idea what they're talking about, then just giving you answers is not going to help.  I will give you some definitions and then you need to attempt the questions.  Then, if you want to email me you're answers, I'll be happy to help you understand and make sure you're correct.  I know... I know...that's NOT the answer you wanted but it IS the answer that will help you the most!

    1. conclusion is what you think, after all the tests are in.

    2. research is what makes you want to attempt the tests

    3. hypothesis is what you think will happen BEFORE you actually do the tests.

    4. observations are what you find as you're doing the tests.

    5. describe the test itself

    6. IF what you thought would be the answer turns out to be RIGHT, which of the tests prove it?

    7. what made you want to do the test to start with?  what was the matter?

    8. data is information, specific, usually numbers or to do with numbers

    9. the variable is the thing in the tests (experiments) that you adjust or change

    10. the control is the one thing that you do the same for each test.

    11. a generalization is a finding that is not specific.  for instance... you could say, "I will run faster if I wear different running shoes".  You're making a generalization.  You're not being specific on type or brand or size.

Hope this helps ... you can email me and I'll be glad to go over your answers and make sure you understand before you get even deeper in the class.  Good luck kiddo!!!
