Can the overwrap plastic packaging that hold multi-units together (think 12 rolls of paper towels from Costco) be recycled?

  1. Here is a pilot project in canada:

So to settle your bet, in theory yes, in practice ... no one does it as a normal recycling activity.

  2. It depends on the material.  If it is HDPE it can be recycled with plastic shopping bags at the bins outside supermarkets.  If it is LDPE or some other plastic, it is very difficult to recycle, but still possible.

And to jennifer's question: There is no market for the recycled material, so recyclers will not collect it.  Many of the plastic bag collection schemes only exist to make plastic bags *seem* recycleable and thus less environmentally harmful.  The plastic is rarely recycled into anything useful.

  3. you state that no one does it as a normal recyclng practice, well why not whaats the point I ask if you are a recycler why  would you just opt not to cause no one else does seems lke  a very plastic way of thinking if you ask me

  4. If the supplier has a web address on the packaging, log on to it and ask them.

Some plastic wrap cannot be recycled.
