Can you help with Injured dolphin dream?

An injured dolphin was on the shore. People were surrounding it. As I walked up I realized how bad the injury was. It had been completely opened on one side (from head to tail). I got the impression that it had been hit by something out in the ocean and it was an accident. You could see everything inside of it. It wasn't dead. I suggested to bring buckets of clean water and keep pouring them on his wound. I also kept thinking that I could close that huge wound if I had suture. (yes, I work at a hospital) People kept pouring water on it. I decided that we should carry him to the vet. Which we did. When we got there the vet gave him anesthesia but the dolphin wouldn't go to sleep. He was writhing in pain by then and I woke up.

I've read a few of the definitions of dolphin dreams but don't know how to interpret the dolphin being injured.

A dolphin represents spiritual guidance, emotional trust, your intellect and mental attributes. Having him injured must mean that you are feeling lost or inadequate in some way. Especially when you weren't able to help him in the dream.
