My boyfriend went into the spare room which we are converting into a baby room, and he said the ceiling is caving in, he said you can poke it and it moves.... The house was just re-roofed about two months ago, now why would this just be happening and how can a contractor fix it? We haven't had any substantial rain for a while now, it did rain this morning for about 15 minutes...but nothing major.

  1. If your ac unit is in the attic the condensation drain line could be clogged resulting in a continual amount of water leaking from the unit.

  2. Well one of two things has probably happened.Either there is a leak.In which case it will become obvious very soon bc you will see water coming thru the seams or the sheetrock itself OR and this is my guess bc alot of roofers(sorry guys but I've seen this a thousand times) are notorious for doing it.They stripped off and replaced some of the plywood and while it was off stuff got dropped onto the ceiling and they did not bother to clean it up.The old out of sight out of mind mentality..And the extra weight is causing the ceiling to sag between the joists. If its an average size room it shouldn't take more than a day or two to replace.

  3. If you have attic access, you need to send your boyfriend up into the attic to check it out and see if there is any moisture, or anything that was left by the roofers that could be causing the ceiling to sag.  He should be able to tell if the ceiling joists have been damaged or what.

  4. I'm sure it is a leak in you new roof. Water will sit up there and collect till the seams or sheetrock softens. You need to call the company that but the roof on. They will have to fix in and your ceiling. the sheetrock is now garbage. The ceiling and your attack insulation will all have to be replaced. It will have to completely dry out to to prevent mold. Specially in your nursery. Good luck and congratulations on the new member of your family.
