she's really just not herself.

any help with what it could be? or what i could do to help her feel more herself?

i'm taking her to the vet in a few hours, but they've told me to get her to drink but she won't. any ideas?

  1. Try ice cubes if your dog likes them.  I've had a very sick dog too that wouldnt eat or drink she had pancretitis. One thing the emergeny vet told me to do that worked wonders was to soak her dry food in water till it becomes spongy and then mash it with a fork ( or put in a blender and make it soupy) then put it in the microwave just long enough to make it warm   The heated food had more of a smell and once cooled off some I gave her teaspoon fulls of the soupy mixture and she liked it.

Sometimes if  I'd just try to put thier water in something different like a different bowl or a cup or even give them teaspoon fulls of water they will be more apt to drink it.

Good luck I'm the mom of 2 dogs and I know its terrible when they are sick

  2. well,ur vet is gonna put your dog on infusion, i think.ur dog need to go to vet quick.

  3. How old is you dog?.  Does he have a lot on cement to play on around your house you had any of this first shots?

  4. well im sorry but go to the vet.

an i agree, try to dip her fingers in the water and maybe she'll l**k the water off them.

  5. Dogs are actually Omnivorous.they need alot less meat protein then cats, ferrets or snakes & feeding a high animal protein diet to a dog will take a toll on the dog's health.a dog is designed to to digest a wide range of plant and animal products.Dog's must eat more then muscle meat.they need plenty of carboyhdrates &fibre from vegetable matter and only a very small amount of fat.there protein can come from both plant and animal products.the other things to consider are sources of mineral such as calcium, phosphorous and of cause vitamins.

Dogs are they Carnivores? Are they really like wolves, hyenas, jackals? or Are they more like us? Is it foolish to feed them only meat? Should they be fed what there human family eats? The Truth encompasses a little of each.

In the wild, other hunting animal that seem similar to dogs, such as Wolves, hyenas eat fruit, leaves, grasses, dig for roots and even obtain vegetable matter from the stomach of their prey."

Cooked grains are nearly 100% digestible for dogs. There really isn't a

lot of question about this based on the results of feeding studies. I am not

sure why people come to the conclusion that grains are not good for

    dogs.

The vet will be able to help.Ice won't cure the problem! it may perk her up for a little bit, but its not dianosing the problem

  6. you should go the vet....i have also a dog he also sometimes become ill.i go to the vet and he gives me some instructions and medicine too........................................ them

  7. go to the VET!

  8.   Force drinking is great. Earlier today my dog was being an idiot and would not drink out of a small cap. So I opened his mouth and got some water in his mouth and he drank it. Open your dogs mouth and slip it down or another way is to dip your finger in water and let it l**k it off your finger and lead its mouth into the dish to drink. Also a last resort is to put some flavor into the water. Another different last resort is give it a biscut thats filled with water that can give it some chance.

  9. When you are at the vets, ask about electrolytes. They are supplied in sachets and they help enormously. I know that your dog is not drinking and you can administer liquid electrolytes with a syringe. You just give the dog a very small amount every ten minutes. Squirt this into her mouth with her nose towards the ground and aim for the teeth to avoid choking her. This will rehydrate her, keep doing this until she perks up.

At this stage, even when she starts drinking water she will be dehydrated. Your vet may think that she needs to go onto a drip and this will pep her up.

Don't try to encourage her to eat and when she is ready for food, she must have a light diets and tiny meals. Cook fish or chicken, remove the bones and skin then mix with soggy rice and serve luke warm. Or scramble eggs in the micro wave, mix the eggs with water and do not add milk or butter.

Another thought . If you have a bottle with a sports top that has previously contained water, use this. Tip her head forward, nose to the ground and squirt a small amount towards her teeth. Even if she does take some of this without being sick, she will be dehydrated and she needs more than water to help. You must go to the vets.

  10. i'm sorry, only a vet can help you dog

    i hope she gets well.

  11. try some gravy? dogs love gravy, well mine do anyway

  12. Sorry, no-one can help except the vet.

You could try dipping your fingers in water and see if she will l**k the water off them.

  13. the vet will figure it out. in the mean time to keep her comfortable try ice chips. if she will let you use a soft spray bottle with warm water. warm water absorbs into the body faster than cold. the most important thing is that you remain calm with her.

    i hope she gets better
