Can you help with these cryptic pop groups? part 1?

1. This astronomer first got a ticket when he added stars

2. He was a phoney but they ruled

3. Tapers out to the meadow

4. Arts group

5. Dibner was both parts of the first and sounds like he was the next too

6. They got a degree on reflection

7. Entrant in the childrens marathon heavens above!

8. A radiator

9. Ditto

10. Inside of a melon

I don't get it. Are these clues for ten different pop groups? Are they from songs? Are the pop groups even american?

1. Bill Haley and the Comets (ticket=bill, astronomer=Haley, stars=comets)

2. Sam the Sham & the Pharaohs (phoney=Sam the Sham, they ruled=Pharaohs)

3. Peters and Lee (Tapers out=peters, meadow=lee)

4. Culture Club (arts=culture, group=club)

5. Manfred Mann? (not sure about this one, something to do with Fred Dibner though!)

6. Abba (degree=BA, reflected)

7. Junior Walker and the All Stars (Entrant in childrens marathon=junior walker, heavens=all stars)

8. Canned Heat (bit tenuous!)

9. The Repeats (ditto=repeat)

10. Pulp.
