I'm going to be a freshman this year, but our district has really strict rules about, "NO SHOTS NO SCHOOL!" So now my dad has to look up what that shot is, but he said if it's something bad I'm not going to take it. Which means I'm not going to be able to go to public school. Then i asked my dad about being homeschooled, and he said he cant cause he works everyday. Then I asked him, "can we just like hire someone?" and he had no idea.

  1. I had a teacher outside of public school.  My dad hired a grad student.  Cost about 20 buxx an hour but it really helped me!

  2. Whether or not you can hire someone depends on a number of factors including your relevant state law.

One possibility is to go with an online high school. If it is a public online high school, the rules are likely the same (but not necessarily; check that out with the school).

Another option is going with a private online high school. Private schools typically have no such rules.

  3. The shots you need are just getting your immunizations up to date.  They're the same shots you've had to have up till now - Dpt, MMR, Hep A, things like that.  During high school, you're required to have a booster for some of these (I know you have to have MMR, don't know about the others).

If you've had immunizations in the past (which you'd have to have to get into ps in the first place), it's just more of the same.

If your parents decide not to have you immunized, they will likely need to homeschool you.  Public and private schools require immunization reports, as there are hundreds to thousands of kids in the same building, sharing the same illnesses, for 9 months out of the year.  In order to be enrolled, you're required to be immunized against any epidemic diseases.

A private tutor would likely run your dad $30-60,000 per year, but there are other ways for you to be homeschooled if you're old enough to be home alone during the day.  You can have a DVD-based program that will teach you, you can have an online or CD-Rom based program, or you and your dad can work out your coursework, he can teach you at night, and you can do your work independently during the day.

Have your dad get in touch with a homeschooling group in your area for more info if homeschooling is something you and he are interested in.  They can give you both more specific details on your options.

Hope that helps, and good luck!

  4. I am sure you probably can, but it will probably be expensive.

  5. yes you can but you have to keep in mind that u cant hire a teacher for everything if u need a math tutor u can get one easily h**l u can hire me but if ur looking for something more advanced or different such as say programming computers u cant really hire anyone unless ur lucky not a lot of those guys walking around if u know what i mean ur best bet in case u cant hire a teacher is to look for classes at your local college u may be able to successfully arrange for urself to learn something of that sort but it may not come to that if you keep ur eyes open to opportunities around u tho yea in conclusion u could do that tho it might be expensive

  6. Yes, you can...although you can expect to pay somewhere in the region of $60,000 for a year's worth of private tutoring (home teaching) - current charges up here are $100 plus, per hour; then your dad would have to pay agency fees, insurance etc on top of that.

I presume you're in the US though as that's the only place I've ever heard of that has this link between 'kids going to school'  and 'kids getting their vaccinations'. I'm neither in the US nor do I go to school (not that my country has this cough-daft-cough 'no vaccination = no school' thing!) but it has been posted here several times that there are always exemptions to be gained from the 'no jabs = no public school place' policy.

Btw, as long as your dad trusts you to get on with your lessons without him having to stand over you, there is no reason why you can't home-educate yourself whilst he's at work; No-one 'teaches' my siblings and me, neither do homeschoolers have to do their lessons during conventional school hours. There's no reason (in law) why you can't study independently whilst your dad's at work and get whatever help you need from him in the evenings or at weekends when he's not working.

Alternatively, you and your dad could investigate the possibility of you doing some form of distance education: you could join something such as an online cyber-school or correspondence school; that way, you'd still be doing your lessons at home but you'd be taught by teachers, be involved in online classes, be able to phone/email your teachers, other kids in the same (online) class etc. Your dad's involvement could be minimal; he'd just need to be happy for you to stay home whilst he's out at work

  7. Yes, it is possible to hire someone, but unfortuntely, not for you.

If your Dad is as idiotic as you describe, then it is highly unlikely that he has a job that provides an adequate income for him to be able to afford a private tutor.

If i were you, i'd move in with a smarter relative or friend, and enroll in the nearest public school.

  8. You should be able to obtain an exemption of some form from the shots if your dad does not want you to take them.  With the exemption, you would be able to attend school even without the shot.

As for homeschooling, most homeschoolers do not hire outside tutors.  As a freshman,  you would be able to do most of the work on your own without your dad teaching you.

Look into using a textbook program or computer based program.  Here are descriptions of each:

You will also need to be aware of your state's homeschool laws.  Here's some info for you:

    Hope this helps!
