we played volleyball at school and my teacher kept on having a go at me because I was hitting the ball with one hand.

In real competitions, is it legal to hit a volleyball with one hand?

  1. YES

  2. yes its legal, but you become a more versatile vball player if u can hit with both. im left handed and sometimes the set doesnt even reach my left hand so im forced to do it righty. and a bonus...the other team wont know what hit them! :)

  3. It is illegal unless your hand is balled up in a fist when you hit it. It is alot better and easier if you go with two hands, and there is more control on the ball, therefore bettering your chances of having a coach that don't have a go at you, and more points.

  4. I would assume you meant to say one-hand passing. Passing the ball with one hand is legal. When there is no other option, digging with one hand with high "quality" is desirable.

Having said that, you should always try to work your feet to move two hands under the ball. All coaches would enforce two-hand passing as it is really something fundamental. You want to show your coach that you are willing to listen, and you want to give them you 100%.

Some beginners tend to stay in one spot trying to reach out with one hand, without any foot work. That might be something getting into your coach's mind as well.

  5. It's legal, but not recommended unless it's spiking. It's not recommended because there's no control in that way of hitting.

  6. what do you mean? passing it with one hand? if so thats bad technique, but w/e

if you're hitting, that's the way you hit

if you set it with one hand, that is a tip

  7. you SHOULD bump with two. coaches say this because the ref might call it a carry if you use one and it looks like your hand was not in a fist. Sometimes, i use one hand, but try not to. spiking is obviously with 1 hand.

  8. yes you can hit it with one hand,,,quite handy when trying to keep balance stretching for ball,,,  p.s. does'nt scouse look like my younger brother

  9. A pass which it at you waste u use both hands. You make a fist and wrap your other hand around it then. You hit the ball off of your forarm, not your hands or above your elbows. A set you also use one hand.  If you make a fist and reach out with one hand and hit the ball, you can, but it maybe a bad pass. You put both hands above your head and make a  triangle with your thumb and pionter fingers and when the ball is coming to you you push the ball up in the air, go not catch it, its illegal. You don't hit the ball on you palms, you use the pads of your fingers. You can not set with one hand or it will be considered a lift and the other team gets a piont. The only real hit with one hand is a spike. A spike is when you take three steps and you jump up and swing at the ball. A spike is one of the best type of hits, it's harder for the other team to return a good spike.

  10. lol yes you can. but you will have more control if you hit it with 2 hands so that is why they try and teach it to you that way. but yeh spiking is hit  with one hand?!

but if ur not talking about spiking then yes you could still even hit with just one hand!

best of luck.my wishes to ya!

  11. what a spike or a bump

Spike you are supposed to use one hand

Bump you are supposed to use two hands i fyou use one i think it is illegal

    HiHi c3 ;-)

  12. You just play a better game if you can hit with both. It's a question of reach. You may be the best player in your team but you would be even better if you took your teachers advice

  13. Definately, you can hit a ball with one hand.  Spikes are hit with one hand.  It doesn't have to be a spike to hit with one hand.  In some situations, like setting, two hands are necessary, but sometimes one hand is better.  Perhaps your teacher was trying to fix your mechanics, that maybe you were using one when you should use two?

  14. It's completely legal, and the only safe way to go if you're going to roll.

  15. You have better control if you use two hands. However, if you can only reach it with 1 hand, it's best to do that

  16. I would have to agree completely with Dan_Ye.

In case it's "setting" you're referring to, yes it's legal, but it is at the mercy of the referee as to a "quality or "clean" set or not.

Setting "clean" with one had (again, as a last option) would be an advanced technique and would also be more prone to setting errors (lift, double, etc) called by the referee if you're not careful.

one-handed sets would only be advantageous if you're trying to save a pass from going over the net to keep an aggressive offense by setting hitter at all times.

  17. well if your referring to a mist, its legal, but of coarse its always easier to bump (hit)
