My daughter got straight A's all year long and they wanted her to attend summer school. We did not send her due to having other things going on during our summer break. Can they hold her back? We live in Indiana.

  1. I doubt it i live in indiana too, if you don't mind me asking what part? First off why would they want a smart student to attend summer school, summer school is for people who do not do good in school and by the sound of it ur daughter did pretty good. So i would doubt they would hold her back that would be very odd if they did.

  2. I wouldn't think they would have any grounds for retention with all A's.  someone would have some explaining to do if her grades did not reflect any difficulties.  Why would they want her to attend summer school in the first place if she received all A's?

  3. There must another reason that the school wouldhave your daughter to attend summer school. Call her teacher and try to obtain this information. Hope this helps you out.

  4. Call the school, have her released, they should do it without hesitation since it's with the parents' consent. And you have a valid reason too. No worries.

  5. The first question is: Why did the school/teacher/principal recommend her for summer school.  Was being retained explained as a consequence of not participating in summer school?  In the district I work in students can be retained if they are not "ready" for the next grade.  It is not only the report card grades, but social/emotional issues are considered.

  6. I always got letters from school, asking me to attend summer school. I never did,nor was I a straight A student, never got held back for that reason. Call the school, best option.

  7. summer school is to make up failed classes or to attend special enrichment classes.  since she did so well, i can only assume they wanted her to attend enrichment classes.  in that case, no, she is fine and will go into the next grade.  only your child's school can answer your question though, call first thing tomorrow.

  8. if it wasn't for a specific class or anything like that, i wouldn't think so.  u should ask her counselor at school about ways that she could improve her score during the school year.
