Someone told me that they know someone who had a baby when they were 15 and homeschooled themselves after the baby was born. Is this possible?

What are the average fees if you do it online?

  1. just go to school who cares get an education u want to be stupid and work at mcdonalds all ur life

  2. I know there is an online program where u go through high school online but im not sure what it's called sorry

  3. It is definitely possible to homeschool yourself instead of attending a conventional high school - my family have been doing it for the last 106 years (and yep, we are educated; no we're not stupid and no, we don't work in McDonalds!).

My siblings and I are unschoolers (see homeschoolmom's post!) so our costs are minimal - we don't, for instance, pay any fees.

  4. I don't know what the rules of your state are, but usually you have to send in a homeschooling intent to the school board with your guardian's signature, home address, etc.

It IS possible to homeschool yourself, but when I mean 'yourself' I'm saying that you can do all the work without people checking up on you, but if you're a minor, you still have to live with a guardian.

Online schools vary on your budget and where you live. Here's the quick way of explaining some options:

There several ways to go to online high school. Most of these online high schools are really good, but they charge you a fee for each class you take.

    1) Keystone National high school. ($375 for each course you take using their online software, $275 for each course if you do your work from a book and communicate with teacher by phone.) Textbooks included, as well as teacher support and any test prep materials or whatever is provided with the textbooks.

    www.keystonehighschool.com

    2) Check if your state has a virtual school. Go to google and put in (your state goes here) virtual school. Ex: if you live in florida, type in florida virtual school. It's really good. You can even take classes on there if you don't live in florida (but you have to pay.)

    3) Check if the online high schools offer diplomas. For example, keystone national high school DOES offer a diploma, as proof of graduation, but florida virtual school DOESN'T offer a diploma and you'd have to take the GED.

Just make sure that you will get credits for the classes you take online (make sure the school is accredited. Keystone and Florida Virtual School are both accredited.)

    Hope this helps!

  5. Since no one else has mentioned it yet, check out Grace Llewellyn's book, _The Teenage Liberation Handbook_.  In it, she describes how to "self-instruct" (or "unschool") high school, without emancipation, and still get into a good college.  See if your local library has a copy.  If not, it's available through Amazon and other booksellers.

You might also check out Clonlara ( http://www.clonlara.org/home_based )

  6. I homeschooled myself for 4 years of highschool. It's really easy, you just make lesson plans. I went throught Christian Liberty Acadmey, but they don't have an online program.

  7. Yes it is possible.  You can do it online or you can just buy the books and do yourself.

    http://www.aopacademy.com

The online academy above will run you about $1000-$1300 a year, total cost.

  8. You should have a mentor who will help you along the way.  However, most of what you want to do, can be done by yourself.  You would receive the course material via mail, respond to test questions via mail, and have your course work graded by the home school network.

Your costs would run between $900 and $1,000 per semester.

  9. The only way you would technically be able to homeschool yourself, would be to have yourself legally emancipated through Family Court.  In absence of legal emancipation, your parent or guardian would need to complete an educational plan and have it approved by your Superintendent of schools.  There are then numerous requirements that need to be followed throughout the process.  Good luck!

  10. You could homeschool yourself, but you may not get any qualifications for university. You can do online schooling, which would be better than doing it all yourself, because you can interact with tutors. Also i dont know if your actually allowed to supervise yourself.

  11. i know there is a high school program you can do called Seton...but it's catholic. not sure if you're catholic.

  12. You generally have to be emancipated or still have an adult supervisor like a parent or grandmother.  Then you can do as you please.  Some areas offer free distant learning for young mothers, a friend of mine did that in California.  it was free from the school system.

You're goal would be to get an accredit program that provides a diploma or a program that prepairs you for the GED test.

If you're emancipated you can take that at any time, but you better be ready for it.

With a GED you can always go to a Community College

Education from 16 on is all college prep and if you have no total desire to go into a college on a serioius level (that means Algebra, Geometry, Trig, Chemistry, Biology, etc.) then you just need to build your educational level to a good point.

Keep your math skills (fractions, decimals, light geometry) up, improves your english skills (reading and writing), memorization skills, broaden your undestanding poltics.

A lot of this can be done from watching PBS instead of Oprah and Dr. Phil.

You want an education you don't watch SOAPS you watch PBS and let it soak in and maybe some news shows.

If you don't understand something, to to the library and check out a book on it and read.

Now you are learning and continuing your education wtihout a COLLEGE goal.  AT least not a full college.

  13. What state are you in?

Caliva.org is a good place too look its free. and they have some other states.
