  1. Hm i own a pet duck and when it was a duckling i kept it inside because i used to have 2 and kept them outside along with about 10 chicks and a cat killed them all except for my duck. So now back to the subject the duck couldn't learn not to p**p inside it kept pooping like every 30 min. so when i got older i kept it outside so now cats are used to seeing my duck and dont even pay attention to it. So my best answer would be No it would take a professional to house train a duck.

  2. I have custom duck diapers as well.

I have 4 adult ducks and plan to hatch some more ducklings for some friends next year so that I can keep a single one to live inside the house *!with graduating diapers from day one!*.  And perhaps move outdoors when he or she gets as big as the others.

Ducks are creatures of habit and extremely easy to train compared to dogs (which I have also had).  All you have to do is be CONSISTENT.

I put them in their house every night at 8 pm until they started gathering there by themselves.

I use a clicker (for dog training) I got at Pets-Mart with tomatoes and lettuce until they came to the sound.

Probably the only thing you cannot train them/get them in the habit of doing, is not pooping when they have to go.

I've also heard that training is even easier to do when you have a single duck (because it's bonded to you instead of other ducks).  And I would recommend starting with only one duck anyway if it's going to live inside the house.

    I hope this helps!

You can also train them to stop doing things which is important! like to keep them off of the door mat or like I had to get one to stop biting my feet after he'd somehow gotten in the habit of doing it and the males to quit fighting when they first matured.

Snapping my fingers and holding them in a submissive position like you'd do with a dog until they relax when they do something wrong.

  3. Crazier things have happened.

I think if you're patient enough and use positive reinforcement, you could probably do it.

  4. They can be trained to walk on a leash. They can be tought to know words like there name. They can NOT be trained to use the restroom because they do not have the ability to hold it and go in one area.

I would start off with a string thick as a shoe string and placing it around the belly behind the wing area. and teaching it by letting it follw you will be great.

If you say there name as they come to you constantly they will know thats there name.

If you want them to stay inside like mine does than you can get a duck diaper. Look at this site, its amazing

They have them to adjust to there age.... Of couse you let them outside frequerntly but inside as well.
