Can you identify this bug in my basement?

I'm not even sure in fact it is a bug as they do not appear to be moving, but they are definitely multiplying.

They are in the storage space of our basement and only recently appeared there this past month (August in the North East). They are each about 1/2 an inch, dark brown and long like a worm, but they are all curled into a semi-circle. That is as close as I will get to them for you, but they are all over the floor of our basement and were not there the last time I went down there a month ago...At least 100 of them.

Any ideas?

  1. baby silvers ..... maybe

  2. I don't know the name of them, but I think I know what you mean.  We used to get them in our older house with a damp basement.  Now that we are in a newer house, we don't seem to have them.  As far as I know they are harmless, but you might want to put a dehumidifier in the area where they are.  It will at least help to minimize the number.

  3. Maybe pillbugs?

  4. probably earwigs.

  5. They're dead millipedes and they are all over northern CA

  6. Can you take a picture of it & post?

  7. they could be small millipedes, they tend to curl up when they're dead, or protecting themselves. in which case, they wouldn't be moving.

  8. maggots?
