We have a fiberglass tub insert and wanted to add a sliding glass shower door. I am afraid if we have to drill into the fiberglass insert that it could crack causing us a very expensive replacement. Is there a way to install the door without drilling but also be sturdy enough to withstand opening and closing?

  1. The screws are necessary.

To avoid damaging the fiberglass be sure to drill the correct size hole for your screws.  Most fiberglass inserts are durable enough to with stand some holes being drilled in them.

Follow the door mfgr installation directions and you will be fine.  Avoid any short cuts and avoid getting in a hurry.
